This grand gold-domed construction was commissioned by Perak s 28th Sultan, Idris Shah, after his recovery from illness. Masjid Ubudiah C meaning the mosque of self-surrender to Allah C was masterminded by AB Hubback, the architect behind a number of Perak s colonial buildings. Marble imported from Italy adds bands of mauve to this bright white building. When works began in 1913, two fighting elephants damaged the marble, leading to a construction slowdown. The mosque was eventually completed in 1917. |
